Ralph Breaks The Internet (2018)

Summary
Here's a review of the sequel to Disney's hit 2012 film, Wreck-It-Ralph. The film surprisingly makes a very decent sequel to the original even though no sequels to Wreck-It-Ralph can match the same star quality as the original.

What's it about?
Mr Litwak, the manager of the arcade house, plugs in Wi-Fi. However, Vanellope von Schweetz's game "Sugar Rush" breaks, and Litwak decides to declare the game out of order. Wreck-It-Ralph decides to journey into the internet with Vanellope, to buy a spare part for Sugar Rush from eBay so that they can save the game. However, they also go through many other parts of the internet to raise enough money to buy the part.

The good bits
The film makes a brilliant sequel by showcasing universe building, great new characters and a lot of decent jokes. There were also heartwarming scenes, not too many product placements and clever creativity, The animation was lovely, and there were excellent vocal performances such as from John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman. The movie also had a moving story and an important message about social media reactions to one another.

The bad bits
To be fair, although the movie made a brilliant sequel, I personally liked the story of the original better because it was more interesting and had a more important moral. Also there was one scene which I felt that Disney was using so that they can attract as many people as possible and I felt that the writers went a bit far by beating up Ralph and taking it for laughs too much. I also felt that the film had some minor plot-holes here and there and it felt a bit too long and not as well paced as Wreck-It-Ralph. I also didn't like how the Disney princesses were portrayed with the same personality as one another.

What is it similar to?
Other than just being quite inferior to the original, I also personally liked Incredibles 2 and Isle of dogs more and I don't think it is one of Disney's best movies from their revival era.

Oscar's recommendation
I can only recommend anyone who has seen and liked the original, Internet addicts and Disney fans alike to see this sequel as well, but not anyone who has not seen or liked Wreck-It-Ralph.

Swearing
Some people might take offence that anyone who browses the internet is portrayed as cube-headed midgets within the internet.

Violence
There were a couple of scenes in which Ralph gets mildly beat up every now and then. There was also a spare hip bone on bidding in eBay.

Fear
There were some frightening scenes from an online game called "Slaughter Race", during which a mad dog was eaten by a shark along with other dogs and cats. These scenes all had dark settings and there is an evil clown who pops out three times. There is also the climax which contained scenes such as Ralph going to the dark net, a blob with another face in his neck, Ralph unleashing a virus just so he can get Vanellope back, and the virus making more computer bugs out of Ralph which wrecks the internet and chases Vanellope.

Sensory details
There were a lot of very bright colours throughout the movie, and some very dark and unsettling scenes most of the time that can be quite unexpected. Some people might be affected about being portrayed as a cube-headed individual inside the internet, as well as being dogs and cats being eaten by a shark and Ralph getting dressed up as Snow White and ripping out the belly side. All the princesses were portrayed with the same personalities, and there was a creepy clown who pops up three times in one scene. Some people might also be very overwhelmed with anxiety when they want to know whether or not the heroes can save Sugar Rush just in time, and others might feel scared or cringe in most scenes.

Skills
The story was moderately complicated, and you will have to prepare yourself for either being scared, anxious or unsettled with most scenes to enjoy the movie more and try to cope with taking offence to some scenes.
